Helping You Face the World With Confidence And Calm
Therapy for anxiety near Detroit that supports lasting change
Anxiety can feel overwhelming, but it’s also something you can learn to manage with the right tools and support. Our approach begins by helping you or your child understand the thoughts, emotions, and behaviors connected to anxiety. From there, we work together to develop coping strategies that feel natural and effective in everyday life.
We use therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based techniques to support progress. These approaches can help you:
-
Recognize and reframe anxious thoughts
-
Practice new behaviors in safe, supportive ways
-
Improve your ability to cope with stress and uncertainty
-
Gain confidence in handling social situations, school, work, or family life
Each session is guided by your goals, your pace, and your personal strengths. Our aim is to help you move through life with greater ease and confidence, not just manage symptoms.
Evidence-Based Anxiety Treatment in St. Clair Shores
Using CBT, ACT, and mindfulness strategies to create real, lasting progress
At Bluetree Behavioral Health, our therapy for anxiety is grounded in approaches backed by research and clinical experience. We believe effective treatment starts with a deep understanding of each person’s unique experience with anxiety—what triggers it, how it shows up, and what support feels most helpful.
We regularly use evidence-based methods such as:
-
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Helps identify unhelpful thought patterns and build healthier responses.
-
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): Encourages values-based living and reduces the struggle against anxious thoughts.
-
Mindfulness-based techniques: Strengthen awareness, presence, and the ability to manage stress in the moment.
These tools are adapted for each individual. For kids and teens, we incorporate developmentally appropriate strategies like play-based techniques or family sessions. For adults, we focus on practical, real world applications that fit into your everyday life.
We don’t believe in one size fits all therapy. Instead, we work with everyone to create a space that feels safe, respectful, and practical. Therapy should help people grow into who they are, not teach them to hide it.
We welcome anyone from all over Southeast Michigan, including families near Detroit and across Macomb and Oakland counties.

Get Clarity Through Diagnostic Evaluations
Anxiety and stress management starts with understanding what’s beneath the surface
Sometimes the signs of anxiety aren’t easy to spot. You or your child might be experiencing trouble concentrating, frequent meltdowns, physical symptoms, or just a sense that something isn’t quite right. A diagnostic evaluation can help bring clarity to these experiences and provide a clear path forward.
At Bluetree, our comprehensive evaluations look at emotional, behavioral, and developmental factors to better understand how anxiety is showing up in your life. We assess for:
Generalized anxiety disorder
Social anxiety
Panic disorder
Separation anxiety
Specific phobias
Other related concerns like OCD or ADHD
Our findings help inform personalized treatment plans and give families, schools, and other providers the insights they need to support you effectively.

Frequently Asked Questions
FAQs
I'm nervous about taking the first step. What can I expect?
Taking the first step means reaching out by phone, email, or the online contact form.
Together, we will schedule your first appointment. After scheduling, you will receive access to your TherapyNotes patient portal via e-mail. The portal contains all the paperwork (history forms and consent forms) you need to complete before your appointment. Your first appointment will be an intake. Both the paperwork and the intake will allow us to get to know you and your needs fully. We want to make sure that Bluetree is a good fit for you or your family. At this intake appointment, we will jointly determine next steps and let you know what to expect for future appointments. If we determine that Bluetree is not the best fit for you, then we will provide you with outside referrals.
I’m not comfortable meeting in-person right now. Do you offer online appointments?
Yes! We do offer online appointments, often known as telehealth appointments. These appointment occur on our online patient portal, which can be accessed on your computer, tablet, or phone. Most of our services (therapy, coaching, and consultation) can be accessed online. Often, a portion of the evaluation service is required in-person.
I'm worried about payment. Do you take insurance?
At Bluetree Behavioral Health, we currently accept private pay as well as Blue Cross Blue Shield and Blue Care Network plans. Prior to meeting you, we will inform you of your financial responsibility based on your plan. We encourage you to also contact your insurance provider to confirm your payment responsibility.
Payment (private pay, deductible, copay, etc) is due at the time of your appointment.
Who can access services at Bluetree?
We see individuals of all ages, with a speciality in evaluating and treating school-age children and adolescents with developmental differences, behavioral difficulties, and those on the autism spectrum. Additionally, we focus on individuals with attention and impulse concerns and anxiety.
How long are appointments?
A typical therapy appointment is 45-50 minutes in length. Specific appointments may be longer. We will notify you if the appointment varies from our standard times.
Evaluation appointments differ from our standard appointment as they include interviews, testing, report writing and feedback in order to provide a useful and comprehensive evaluation that meets your needs. Because of this, the evaluation sessions may be broken into a couple of several-hour-long sessions. Every evaluation appointment is unique to the individual’s needs, and we will provide additional information about your evaluation appointment upon scheduling.
What if I can no longer make it to an appointment?
Please inform Bluetree as soon as you know you cannot attend an appointment. We understand that unforeseen events and emergencies may occur, however we urge you to cancel at least 24 hours before your appointment. For cancellations made with less than 24-hours notice (unless due to illness or an emergency) or scheduled appointment that is completely missed, you will be billed the full session fee. We aim to accommodate our clients as much as possible to avoid this fee, which is why we encourage you to communicate your attendance concerns with your clinician as soon as possible. Prompt and regular appointments are important to treatment success.
I think my child needs help. What is my role as a parent?
We encourage active engagement from all parents and caregivers. Some treatments involve direct participation in treatment sessions and all treatments include at-home practice for you and your child to maintain and generalize learned skills.
How will I know what you discuss with my child?
We are bound by confidentiality and cannot divulge personal information* discussed in therapy sessions. We encourage caregiver-child communication and debriefs with caregivers in-session. Often with children, we have caregivers check in and check out with the therapist and child before and after sessions to maintain communication with the therapist.
*Please note that we must share information concerning the safety of the child with the caregivers or appropriate parties.
What kind of diagnoses do you give at evaluations?
We provide diagnoses from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-V). Most of these diagnoses are typically neurodevelopmental in nature and take into account other co-occurring behavior or mood concerns. Specialities include (but are not limited to):
- Autism Spectrum Disorders
- Anxiety disorders (Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Selective Mutism, Social Anxiety)
- Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
- Behavioral disorders (such as Oppositional Defiant Disorder)
What specific treatments do you use?
At Bluetree, we use a variety of methods that are scientifically proven to address your concerns, but are flexible to meet your needs as they change. We are especially skilled in using behavior-based treatments. We recognize that you have a unique personal background which shapes who you are and how you interact with the world. We want to maintain an open, collaborative environment to address what is most important to you.
At Bluetree, we use behavioral strategies to jointly create measurable and flexible goals for treatment. We create and monitor those goals regularly to inform us on treatment progress. We use these broad behavioral principles in combination with other specific strategies, such as:
- General behavior therapy and applied behavior analysis (ABA) techniques,
- Cognitive-behavioral therapy,
- Parent management training
- Exposure therapy
- Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT)
- Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)
